Once upon a time, long ago, Kay and Robin had two Springers who they were training in obedience. Their trainer started Agility Lessons 'just for a bit of fun' and after many months, they and the group they were with decided to enter a competition, but although they ended up competing in quite a few, they realised that the Springers did not really like it - noses to the ground instead of looking up at the jumps! But Kay and Robin were hooked on agility.
Not being ready to go for these Collie dogs that seemed to enjoy it, Kay put the word out for a Springer Collie cross and eventually along came Fern. Meanwhile they inherited a Collie named Sinbad, so Robin had Sinbad and Kay had Fern.
These two dogs were the ones that changed their lives. Fern took Kay to Crufts twice. Sinbad, after a very manic start, reached Advanced level and both dogs qualified and won many finals over the years.
Kay and Robin were by then teaching obedience and bought a few jumps, just to practise themselves, but word got round and so an agility night started.
Things grew and the obedience was dropped for a time and the agility took over and this has grown into a most successful club. After some time Kay had Badger, who has had to retire early due to illness, and Robin had Della, who in just over two years reached Grade 6 and is now a Grade 7 dog. They now have two of the first 'Midwinter Boobuds', Skip and Jack, who are doing extremely well for them.
The rest, as they say, is history........
